"I had read the reviews and noted they were mixed including that staff were alleged to have fallen short. That was not our experience so forget that and don't be swayed by it. We booked last minute for a meal with friends yesterday 29/12 and can only say we went with an open mind and were not disappointed. Great Ayton itself is a pretty Yorkshire village and the pub faces the green so the view is great, with the green framing historic houses surrounding it. So that is worth a visit in its' own right. We had a window table in this cosy welcoming place which was perfect and the parmesan chicken was delicious. A friend had a butternut wellington which was innovative and also well received. Service for both food and drinks was timely and cannot be faulted. Staff were absolutely lovely. We were not rushed in any way. As no one in our party had previously eaten at this place, despite living fairly locally, we all agreed that we would definitely return and could make it a favourite place to eat."

Went here for lunch,we had nice friendly welcome, the food order was taken at the table and we were served quickly. The food was nice, good quality home made food. The pub has three rooms with open fire.

Got a pair of 'royal Oak parmos '. Oh my god. Best parmo I 've ever had. Tuesday night, buy one get one free parmo... If only we were there later, but it was well worth it. Very nice place, inside and out and the staff were lovely too.

I can only give one Star as they charged my partner for two extra drinks that none of us had. My partner checked the receipt unfortunately at home and noticed. And none of us had Heineken. There was two added to our bill. Food was good.

Been before and had a great meal but this was quite poor. Parmesan was very strange the Royal Oak Parmesan. A very small portion of chips was very small and were like scraps. Salad was paltry and the steak which was good came with half a mushroom. Extremely underwhelming. A night out ruined. View menu

Great Aston is a lovely village. We stayed as part of a walk along the Cleaveland way. The Royal Oak had very good value, clean and functional rooms. Good evening food and a nice atmosphere. Only slight problem with windows open were some quite noisy staff and a delivery at 6am, but overall a really lively stay

There are gluten-free options available on the menu at this restaurant. However, it's important to note that they may not always have a separate fryer for the fries. During our visit, both fryers were being used for products containing wheat, but our server informed us and we were able to get potatoes with our burger instead. They also offer gluten-free buns for breakfast, but do not have any gluten-free cereals.

I met a friend for lunch at this restaurant. It was fairly quiet for a Friday, but that's to be expected as pubs are not as busy as they used to be. I ordered a bacon and Brie panini with chips, as well as a fresh orange juice and soda water. The panini was delicious, the chips were cooked perfectly and crispy, and the salad was nice. My friend didn't eat because he had already eaten, but he enjoyed the Timothy Taylor's bitter beer. It was great to catch up and enjoy some delicious food. It was also good value for the quality of the meal. I highly recommend this place! View menu

I visited this restaurant for Sunday lunch. I arrived around 4 o'clock and, as usual, the male staff seemed flustered and had trouble finding me a table. I ended up sitting in the bar, where my meal was served by the manager who brought out plates of what I can only describe as burnt food. The roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were overcooked, the pork was tough, and the vegetables were drowning in butter. The only good part of the experience was the young female waitress who was polite, friendly, and made us smile. It's a shame that this restaurant seems to have forgotten about hospitality and good food. Overall, it was a disappointing meal and I hope they can improve in the future.

The food quality at this restaurant was very disappointing compared to my previous visit, and the experience was made worse by the rude and unhelpful waitress. My friend ordered the panini, but found the bread to be stale, with a meager amount of strange-tasting chicken and barely any sweet chilli sauce. I chose the crispy pork belly starter with chips, but the small piece of pork was not crispy at all and tasted old and fatty. I requested for the salad to be without apple, but it was not brought to me at all until I asked for it. The waitress seemed annoyed and brought me a tiny cup of salad with apple slices. I decided to just eat the chips, which were pale and soggy. The staff members who...
