"Greatest Hangover Cure!. After heavy night out, what i really needed to get me back to form was a big bowl of ramen. Tonkotsu east by Haggerston station was a saving grace and a great addition to the area. Went with a friend and loved the space which is right under the overground rail line. Staff was friendly and attentive. Ordered the Chicken gyoza, Crabmeat Korokke and we both had the Tonkotsu ramen. The Crabmeat Korokke was great, like croquettes its served with delicious mayonaise. I could eat these for days. The Gyoza came out next but with no sauce, then i realized you had to make your own sauce from the table soya, vinegar and chili oil. This was nice as we like it hot and you can...read more"

Sometimes (what I think is the goal), I simply admit and do what the vote says to get it away. although I must be careful not to promote this behavior. it could be pretty bad. So if they know me personally, they know that if they are too nasty to wear it consequences. I can be a rather difficult person if I understood (or even half) on it.

cool Asian pop on the canal. a great improvement on the food front they have their kitchen outsourced. great dump, so good that I had two portions. these are broth and other forms of dimming from this Japanese theme brand. Nice to sit outside in the sun when the weather is good. also the room next door has exhibitions and talks. a regular visit worth when they live in the environment. View menu

Sometimes nagging gets to me.  At times (which I guess is the aim), I just give in and do what the voice says in order to get it to go away. Although I have to be careful not to encourage such behaviour.  It might backfire rather badly.  So if you know me personally, know that if you nag too much, there will be consequences to bear.  I can be a rather difficult person if I put my mind (or even half) to it.

this last week saw a whirlwind of flat reflections when I relocate to my next search. because my work is now out in the east, there is not so much reason to stay in westminster, plus I am lazy and love to work a road to foot. this evening I went to haggerston to see and I took a bowl tonkotsu from tonkotsu east on the way! warm, rich broth with satisfying carbs in a hurry was the perfect accompaniment. I would certainly have a little disappointment later if I were confronted with the realities of the liondon miet market.

Okay, this message isn't for everyone but if you're from Melbourne or Sydney, then don't come here. It doesn't compare to Asian food back home (or in Asia for that matter). It's quite simply bland, extremely overpriced British/Asian food, suited to an unrefined or alcohol affected palate. I imagine the Japanese would laugh at it and take pictures of the lazily prepared dishes. It's more-or-less posh two-minute noodles with a small handful of veg/meat/seafood plopped in. Most importantly, don't be fooled by the hipster staff who act like they understand Asian food. They don't. View menu

Ever since I returned from Japan I have been constantly searching for the best ramen London has to offer. My journey lead me to Tonkotsu East one weekday evening, where me and my friend were seated straight away I was beyond elated to see tsukemen on the menu, a dish I have yet to see anywhere else outside of Japan. Naturally we ordered the Tonkotsu ramen, Tsukemen and a side of Karaage. The waiter was kind enough to offer us half and half of each meaning we wouldn't have to switch bowls or haphazardly try to to pour some of our own dish into the others. The karaage was juicy, and literally left my mouth watering. The Tonkotsu ramen was creamy and is definitely in my top 3....read more

Tonkotsu East is tucked away at a side street just a few steps away from Haggerston Station and serves 4 different styles of ramen, though, you should definitely try out their Tsukemen I enjoyed the cozy and industrial rustic interior (like it is popular in East London), with a view directly into the kitchen as well as into their own little noodle factory. Emma and I kicked off the dinner with some cocktails and a serving of Chicken Karaage. A great combination! The chicken was so tender and juicy, so be aware when you share it, because there will be a fight over the last piece! For the main, we ordered both Tonkotsu as well as Tsukemen. If you don't know, what Tsukemen is (I...read more

"A friend and I stumbled on to this neighbourhood restaurant by chance; no research, no booking, no expectations. We were then blown away by the quality of the food: wonderfully fresh fish, beautifully cooked. The service is also exemplary. I've always enjoyed calamari, but this was by far the best I've ever had: truly succulent and juicy. The mussels were almost as good, and the sea bream kept up the standard. The spiced quince with ice cream made a nice change from baclava in a Turkish restaurant (they still threw in some baclava). The owner, Tony, provides excellent recommendations — make sure you take them! He knows what's fresh that morning, and how his wife cooks it. The bill comes hand-written, and Tony forgot to include the wine (obviously I corrected him). I can't remember the last time a restaurant bill made a mistake in the customers' favour! No service charge is included, and it deserves a lot more than the usual 12.5%. This is a wonderful, old-fashioned restaurant, run by a charming old couple, committed to maintaining old-fashioned standards. The food is more than great and the prices more than reasonable. Service is personal, honest and responsive (providing Tony turns his hearing aid on). Tony warns you if anything you wanted was bought in, rather than home-made. Why don't unassuming but wonderful restaurants like this get Michelin stars?"
