"Any opportunity our family have, we take trips to Scotland, driving the 8 hours from Wales, knowing we will find a warm welcome everywhere we go. The hospitality of the Scots, together with spectacular scenery and great food make it well worth the journey. In all those years we have never felt unwelcome until we went into the Kirkstyle Inn, Dunning. It is obviously frequented by locals, a local place for local people. They were very busy and there were no tables available inside for dinner so we decided to go into their covered beer garden for drinks and pizza. There were occupied tables to our left and right, both having food, but when we went to order they told us they were not serving food outside. This obviously wasn’t true because everyone around us was eating, without a reservation. This upset the table next to us, so much so, that one of the diners went inside to fight our corner and ask why they wouldn’t serve us food. At that point some large lady came into the beer garden and said the food served outside had been a mistake but we could not have food. She was rude and belligerent. No apology for clearly only feeding favourite customers. We were definitely victimised here, for no reason I can think of. We didn’t make a fuss, just drank up and left. It was so nice of other customers to express their disappointment at how we were treated. I would never recommend this place to visitors. Go at your own risk! They clearly have a captive audience in a small village with no other pubs around. It’s sad they think as a result of their monopoly they can choose to be so dismissive of the people who provide their living. My background is hospitality, hotel management and I can honestly say the customers are our valued bread and butter, never a hindrance. For info we are a couple in our 60s (one celebrating his 60th) adult daughter and fiancé. So disappointing and clearly not the norm for this wonderful part of the world."

We booked through a voucher for one night plus breakfast. Room was really clean and nicely decorated slightly put off by the fact that the toilet was in the same room with only a partition wall which was open at the top, my partner wasn't too bothered but i was a bit uncomfortable! He thoroughly enjoyed being able to have a bath and watch TV though! The staff were friendly and very accommodating when we changed our breakfast time, the service was great. We really enjoyed a chilled out and quiet night in a comfy massive bed! Would return and would recommend

My enchanting week at Kirkstyle Inn in Biggar, Scotland, was made even more special as it marked my first visit to this beautiful country. The inn's warm hospitality, picturesque surroundings, and delightful Scottish cuisine created a memorable experience that will forever be etched in my heart. The staff's kindness and attention to detail made this introduction to Scotland truly exceptional. I had a broken shoulder during this week and the staff was amazing with their care and accommodations for me. A perfect haven for both seasoned travelers and those, like myself, exploring the wonders of Scotland for the first time. Highly recommended! View menu

Made a last-minute booking on Friday for an overnight Sat/Sun. What a great find! Arrived and was warmly welcomed by Chelsea, who I'd made the reservation with. Rooms are just across from pub in seperate building. Lovely big room and a super comfy bed. Pub is cosy and welcoming with eclectic decor, real fires, armchairs and friendly staff. Had dinner in the pub restaurant. Food was delicious. Service was great from a team of young staff. Sat by the fire, watching the rugby and enjoying a whisky. Breakfast next morning over in the pub, food delicious again. Continental is included in room price, but full cooked can be pre-ordered for an extra charge. Overall a great wee stay!

The person you sent to represent your establishment was a huge mistake. Very rude indeed. She gave criticism but didn 't like it in return? Considering they made valid points. A tattie scone isn 't cooked to a burnt state. An open plan bath I accept but a toilet too??? No way...NOT even in these modern times. As for the sing dance about eggs, as she put it herself, her favourite chef sent out an overcooked fried egg but they didn 't mark as harshly as she did 4 !!!! The other 2 participants were impressed by what she told them about herself and praised her but she didn 't have ANYTHING positive to say about them. As for her advice re pastries etc....where when did she serve even cereal? They...

"We stumbled across this place on the last night of a fortnight in Scotland and couldn 't be more glad that we did and that they had space. We were seated promptly (underneath the fan thankfully considering the heatwave), asked whether we 'd eaten there before (we hadn 't), had the menu explained to us (suggested 3 tapas per person) and then left alone briefly to consider the menu. Once ordered, drinks were delivered in a timely fashion, followed by breads dips to tempt tide us over until our tapas arrived. It wasn 't very quick, but I didn 't think it was unduly long either just the right length of time for non fast food that is being prepared freshly. And when it arrived, we were delighted as it was delicious! The only slight disappointment was that salted cod wasn 't available, but that was soon forgotten. My personal favourite was the poached chorizo in red wine with honey glaze, but we were happy with all of our options (patatas bravas, haggis balls, pinchas de pollo, spinach chickpea stew, haddock in red pepper sauce and Spanish tortilla the latter really made by the spicy tomato salsa on the side). 5 between the two of us would probably have sufficed, which would have meant I had space for one of the ice creams, but in hindsight, I 'm glad I didn 't. Excellent service, delicious food, our best meal of our holiday. We probably won 't be back (living in Birmingham and all) but definitely would if we were local."
