"We had a table booked for 6 of us to have our last swan song as they say at The Alfred restaurant area. As from Sunday 3 December ALL FOOD will be stopped and only drinks will be available from the bar area. We had our table booked for 12:30 and the very efficient and friendly Joe seated us and then took our food and drinks orders. We have eaten here so many times over the years, and have always had such superb mouth-watering meals, and its such a shame this has now ceased. If you just want a drink then this place will still be open for that from 3 Dec 2023 but the rest as they say is history. So with this last review I would just like to say that we felt without any doubt or second thoughts this place did the very best home cooked Sunday Roasts/Food in the area. All our meals on this last visit were outstanding as was the service. We are now having to look around for another Sunday Roast venue of this standard which we know is going to be quiet impossible. Thank you for all the absolutely wonderful evening meals and lunches we will all certainly miss them"

My Local. Great staff running the place. Brilliant beers. Fabulous burgers. Love it. Update: Another fab evening at The Alfred. Their Prawn Cocktail with Stilton is soooo good. Friendly staff too.

Recently moved down the road so this should be our new local. Went in for a drink, made to feel so unwelcome by the obvious locals and lady behind the bar. Dogs are obviously not welcome. Will be sticking to the far better pubs in town

Very small with limited parking but Oh My God, what a place for beer and food. Nowadays all restaurants charge high prices and the quality of food you get in return is pretty poor. Not here….the beers are fantastic with a great range, if you like ales then this is the place for you. The food is stunning and I mean out of this world good, all cooked fresh and to order. I had the 8oz filet steak and it was melt in your mouth good. Perfect, best I have ever had. I cannot recommend this place enough. All the staff are extremely welcoming and accommodating. Just go there, you won’t be disappointed.

This place serves what we all feel is one of the best home cooked roasts you will get anywhere. It is such a shame that they will be stopping doing any Sunday Roasts as from 3 December 2023. With that in mind many people who know its closing for food have all booked in advance to get a table before that date. We went on Sunday 5 November and the six of us were absolutely delighted with the meals we had. None of us had a starter or a dessert as we new we would all be so full after the amazing roasts.
