"We had reserved a table, on the day we ate at The Lock Keepers they were very understaffed which meant a long wait to order our food and to have it served by which time it was tepid in temperature. After another long wait we had to ask for our table to be cleared and if we could order desserts again another wait for them to get to us. The two members of staff that were working were doing their best under the circumstances we felt that the management team should have been addressing the lack of staff. Spoilt our visit somewhat it was just as well it was a nice day and we could enjoy the outside seating."

Waiting staff were fantastic. Food was nice. Ambient music was different than regular places. I really liked it and will return.

A great breakfast, as usual I had the eggs royale, lovely soft breakfast muffins topped with just the right amount of smoked salmon, two runny poached eggs and a drizzle of hollandaise...yum!! View menu

The staff were very nice but key elements of the dinner was missing as they had run out at lunchtime. Given this was the first day to open this week I would have thought they would have been better prepared.

As an older person I asked to have my beef cut thinly, when it arrived well over an hour later I couldn`t even cut it let alone chew it, I did complain and was offered an insulting 5% off the bill. There are only 4 main course items on the Sunday menu and when my wife asked for one of them they didn`t have it,so my family will no longer use this venue which is a pity because the area is very nice.

Not the same vibrant place I visited a year ago. The place looks run down, a shame as it is an amazing spot. The staff seemed very uncomfortable and functioning in chaotic mode, there was something about a new chef. The table next to us complained and left a whole meal. The food was just ok, not inspiring, our drinks, lemonade and lager, were flat. We are visiting the area and had planned to return twice this week but will not go back. View menu

Such a disappointment, booked table for 6 people at 13.30 for Sunday Lunch, when we arrived they didn't have a table ready and were running so late we had to wait over an hour to be seated. A lot of the Sunday Lunch menu was unavailable/sold out, it took over an hour to receive our mains and the service was slow and poor. It appeared they were under staffed and we noticed that many of the other tables were also frustrated with the poor slow service and complaining which made the overall atmosphere unpleasant.

Our 2nd visit, the food was good the prawn cocktail was tasty but no lemon and just 2 gem lettuce leaves. Sunday roast was good but for me gravy should be served in a jug for personal service. The waiter was attentive and professional. Our one complaint is the lack of toilets, one unisex loo is so disappointing. Plus only having normal loo roll instead of a commercial dispenser only gives the bar staff more to do when already really busy. That all said sitting outside in the sun was lovely and the Battledown Brewery was a great choice.

"The Cavern in Gloucester is one of a kind. To a lot of people just passing by it is a very pleasant social cafe with reasonably priced food and non-alcoholic drink. The reality is that The Cavern is so much more than that. This is a place that is non-judgemental and focuses on inclusion for everyone. It has a lot of regular attendees including myself, many of which have mental health issues and/or some form of disability. The staff here (who are absolutely amazing) have a varied and wide understanding of mental health and what makes this place unique is that anyone can attend in the evening to talk to a member of staff about any issues in an informal and discrete way. Whilst staff are available anytime during the day there is a designated support area in the evenings which anyone can make use of. There are also various activities which The Cavern put on including an informal karaoke on a Sunday evening with mixed abilities of singers taking part. You don 't have to be a good singer as you will not be judged, it 's all about taking part. The Cavern has had a couple of bad reviews where it has been pointed out that there has been drug use and anti-social behaviour. Some of which may be true, however please bear in mind that some people who attend The Cavern may have mental health issues and conditions that may not be physically visible. The Cavern does not judge and is open to everyone. If The Cavern wasn 't so inclusive, then where would these people go? On the streets being Antisocial ? Getting involved in criminal activity? The safe space that The Cavern provides encourages people to attend and seek advice and support from a friendly staff team as well as other regular attendees who feel that The Cavern has a real family feel to it. Drug use is strictly prohibited and is challenged immediately. Whilst I accept that The Cavern may not run smoothly 100% of the time, I also know that the staff do everything that they can to support everyone who needs it. They are all very approachable and have the respect of people who feel able to open up to them about their problems and struggles. The Cavern is a safe space for everyone and if it was to ever close then Gloucester would lose a very valuable asset to the city."
