"Bruce’s tasting menu was the highlight of our 10 day gastronomic tour of Devon and Cornwall. For someone who claims never to have visited Japan, his kaiseki menu would do even Endo proud. His interpretation of chawanmushi was sublime with a fresh and crunchy shitake and caviar. Superb fish fresh from the quay and the locally grown vegetables were delicious. Even the shiso tasted like shiso tastes in Japan, a remarkable achievement given that shiso in UK is generally bland and disappointing. Three things to bear in mind: 1) try to show up at 6.45pm to get the best tables. Dinner starts promptly at 7pm. 2) don’t expect any meat. 3) Bruce leaves the kitchen between every other course to describe the following two courses. His account of where he sourced the ingredients and how he prepared them is truly fascinating. Finally, a meal at the Shore is not only a true feast for all your senses but also incredibly good value. "Very good atmosphere. Hadn't booked but still managed to create a spot with our 3 children. Reception immediately felt good. Staff very friendly and delicious food. Super atmosphere. Menu limited but it was still difficult to choose because of the delicious dishes and okay prices. Kid-friendliness: 3 adapted menus for the children. Friendly price. "Small menu. Four starters and mains of steaks with your choice of sauce and four fish dishes.My husband and I opted for the scallops and sweet potato soup to start and sirloin steaks. Starters were tasty although not large. The unusual coconut roll served with the soup was delicious but tiny. Ditto the complimentary roll with speciality buttet we each received after placing our order. Our sirloin steaks were good but medium rare, rather than rare as we requested. This was a little disappointing for a restaurant that bils itself as a speciality steak and seafood restaurant. The steaks were served with excellent skin on chips, a half tomato and a caeser side salad. Shame there were no other choices my husband likes neither tomato or caesar salad but there were no alternatives. Service was prompt but rather impersonal it sounded rather as if the servers were reading from a script. The restaurant also lacked atmisphere: It was surprisingly unbusy for a Saturday night yet they wouldn't accept any walk ins.Our two course meal for two with a bottle of wine totalled before tip, which I guess is reasonable for a steak meal. We enjoyed our meal but probably wouldn't rush back, particularly as the menu is so limited."

"Last day of what was a perfect holiday. We’d hesitated after reading several negative reviews but we’d had a good roast here a couple of years ago, so booked a table. We had the first sitting of the evening and were greeted by a very bubbly waitress. We went for a glass of wine each, with 2 small plates for starters. The poor man’s scampi was lovely, the pork belly tasted nice but was barely warm. The waitress encouraged us to have the turbot and told us she believed there were 2 left, so we both chose it. We then watched her tell the table of 3 and the table of 6 walk-ins that turbot was an option. We love fish and we’d had some excellent fish all week; 2 Fore Street and 2 incredible meals at Mackerel Sky in Newlyn (unbelievably good). However my turbot was tasteless and slimy. The skin both top and bottom was slippery like it had been boiled. It made me feel nauseous so we spoke to the waitress. I opted for ribeye as a replacement as it was the same price. My partner ate his turbot but did say it was tasteless (he just wanted to leave). My ribeye was like no steak I’d ever tasted. I chose medium, it came swimming in a thick salty gravy (whisky and mushroom sauce I think) that was incredibly salty. It was covered with leaves. I’ve never seen a steak presented like it. The steak tasted like braised beef. I’m sure the meat was reasonable quality but the cooking of it was terrible. I cut it up and we ate it between us. Incidentally my partner had finished his meal before my ribeye arrived. The waitress came over and asked how it was and I told her it was incredibly salty. She said sorry I’ll feedback to the chef. That was it!! I was thirsty all night, it was so over salted. There was not even any recompense for the poor food. We were given a bill of approx £110 for the worst meal of the week. We left agreeing we will never set foot in there again."

"Whilst wandering the streets of Penzance we hadn’t really planned a schedule and noticed this cafe while looking for somewhere have lunch.We asked to see a menu and liked the amount of choice available for a cafe lunch and asked for a table under the awning which they were more than accommodating. There was a sign saying there could be longer waits due to staff shortage but we were happy to wait.We ordered a macaroni cheese and a crab linguine which I asked for without chilli as I’m not very good with spice! There was a small delay which we had been warned about but the very nice cider made up for that and when the food arrived it was more than worth the wait! It was easy to tell both were fresh and homemade and so tasty! Despite being busy, we didn’t feel like we were rushed and they even recommended a taxi company for our vineyard tour afterwards! Would thoroughly recommend, thank you for making part of our honeymoon in the UK enjoyable!"
