"As a solo traveller and diner I found the staff and service in the restaurant very good. Thoughtful gestures like providing reading material for a lone diner was much appreciated. Some effort to cut through any formalities was worth it conversationally. I had the duck and a pint of 0.5% West Nix beer on draught. The beer was decent to my taste and it is nice to see low alcohol beers making into draught form now. The duck breast was served pink right through, and not knowing anything about cooking duck and given the quality of the establishment, I trusted the situation; I was not given any choice e.g. like you are with steak. Reading up on it afterwards it seems this is a not uncommon practice, but interestingly the food standards agency recommends against it for predictable reasons. I can't really say any more about that except to make sure you are comfortable with and armed with knowledge about any risks you might perceive associated with eating duck served pink. The meal was very tasty and I enjoyed it during consumption."
