"I understand that this pub was recently purchased by a new owner. that was our first time here for many years. it's probably many years before we go back. Previously, it was a great meal here, but not anymore. Cannot...quite understand the good reviews. Before we came in, we could see from the parking lot what an extremely young chef appeared in the kitchen. now I would not take off the juvenile and would not let this fact be my views scrutinized if that had been half decent, but it was not. what was to follow clearly shows that there is absolutely zero experience in the entire provision of food or services. Normally, a place with a fairly short menu is a note that what they serve, they do well. the greeting when we came in was quite wrong and that made the ton for the evening. the atmosphere in the room was not great and as our first drinks pints) were poured, some spilled over the hand of the merciful and they continued to lick it before they brought to our table one of what seemed like a year old, with all the skill and social gnade of good one year old. we ordered a burger and chips and a fish and chips. they arrived right away. rather than too timely and again from one of the child-employed with no attempt of social interaction and she also had one to spill one of the pints, but nothing to get a cloth to wipe or even apologise the spill from the table. concerning the food itself, the chips were of the reheated frozen lumpy sorts and were as dry and quality sticks. the fish was tasteless, grayish meat and served on the head. the burger was barely cooked and heavy fat-coated. it looked anemic because it was obviously boiled to far too low temperature and had none of the beautiful one decent burger. it was not even decent quality meat. prices are not reflexion of the quality of food or service levels."

Service simply shocking when heading to the car the staff are all sat outside smoking and having a chat. Food was good in some cases but mine pretty average. A long way off previous visits

Wow! If you've not tried the food at The Royal Oak Inn at Curthwaite... Why?!?! It was absolutely outstanding! Huge portion of Cumberland sausages with mash, gravy and carrots onion rings, chips, two pints of soft drinks and a passionfruit creme brulee which was...out of this world... Just View menu

Not the place it was, The staff need a bit of training, while having our meal every few minutes a different member of staff would come to table to see if everything thing was alright, it gets a bit of a pain after a while,...and the food is very average, it was difficult to see who was in charge it was a bit chaotic

Visited whilst travelling through Carlisle. The staff and food were outstanding. Nothing seems to much trouble at the Royal Oak and if in the area I have no hesitation in recommending a visit. I had the beef burger which was quite possibly the best I...have ever had our. Thank you for accomadating us at very short notice.

another return visit, can't go away, this time we tried the Steak night. a good choice in the menu. very enticed, but we went for the rib eye plug that came with chips and mushrooms. we decided to give the fried wobble rings and pfeffersoße. steak was cooked to perfection, we had medium-sized rareness. and all other veg were delicious. beautiful. the pfeffergrasss sauce was quite mild and could have been made with a little thicker. good size parts. service excellent. unfortunately had no place for pudding. Just had a fabulous meal at this lovely village pub. I was with my elderly mum so we booked an early table expecting the pub to be quiet. However it was busy but with a really great buzz about it. The service was excellent, really...friendly attentive but not in your face. A good menu with lots of traditional pub food but with some quirky extras such Gyros with Lamb Kofta or Halloumi, Greek salad chips I had this and it was delicious. We had Sunday lunch there last time I visited mum that was exceptional too. Looking forward to next time we visit the Royal Oak.

a word of storm eunice and we were out to get a pub lunch! never at the royal oak, but glad we decided to visit. harrison (chef) and partner tiff (before the house) were both warm and very welcoming. that came, quiet and was worth the ride. fish and chips were beautifully cooked. excellent price too. it turns out that these two youngs are new here, but with tons experience in the industry. we look forward to harrisons new menu, the next week will be on the tables. good honestly well cooked food at a great price. what does not like and friendly people to boot. we'll see each other. the

"I would have loved to rate our dining experience at the Ivy House a lot higher but we were to leave somewhat disappointed. The dining area was pleasant and intimate with well appointed decor, the waitress and waiters pleasant, polite and attentive. The varied menu looked very appetising with most tastes catered for. We chose two courses from the main menu, the Duck Breast and a Fish Dish for myself. Contrary to other reviews we were to wait over 40 minutes before the food was presented to us. We were not advised of any delays or even the expected length of time we might have to wait. The food on arrival was well presented and flavoursome although I did not consider two small stem broccoli spears a serving. I also asked the waiter why there was no Samphire to accompany my dish as stated on the menu, this comment was also reinforced by a fellow diner who ate the same dish just prior to me. The waiter advised me that he would ask the chef. I did not receive a response to my question during further table service and subsequently asked the waiter again. On returning the waiter advised me the chef said “he will try to remember to put it on next time”, a somewhat disrespectful comment. The Cheese platter we were presented with was lacklustre and sparse, quince jelly and a small dish of chutney being the predominant feature. For ourselves we did not feel that our dining experience represented good value for money."
