"Visiting family in the area and went for a meal one Friday night. The pub was quite empty. Small menu, 8 main meal choices. Was told no fish available on a Friday! Chose other options. 3 of us had burgers, should've come with onion rings. When asked where they were, was told no batter left. How hard is it to make batter! 2 of the burgers should've had bacon, no bacon! Asked but no one came back to us. The food we had was lovely but wasnt inclined to stay longer for dessert or more drinks after the lack of concern for our missing items. Went to pay at the bar, wasn't offered a discount for our missing items, had to ask. Was then quieried by the chef/manager ? Who was sat in the. Argued that bacon shouldn't be on the burger!! The barmaid had to get a menu to prove to him. Offered £5 off the bill. Unlikely to go back for food."

I visited a charming countryside pub that was quiet and peaceful. I only stopped in for a drink, but the meals on the menu looked very tempting.

A nice warm little pub. Looks like they’ve been going through a refurbishment. Menu was confusing. Waitress was on her own, run ragged, serving behind the bar and waitressing. Food took nearly an hour to wait for. We all had burger and chips. Our burgers were nice but chips were overcooked.

How sad to hear of the closure. We really enjoyed our overnight stay in August and were looking forward to returning. Everything exceeded our expectations...the room, staff, food and entertainment. Many thanks to Simon and all the staff, Scott Wardell and Bladerunner for a fantastic day and night

This country pub is excellent. Located in a quiet, small village, I stayed one night and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the room. The beer selection was great and the wine was of very good quality. The original pub closed last year, but Jordan has worked tirelessly to bring it back to life. I would highly recommend this place. After a few unsuccessful attempts at finding a Sunday roast on the way back from Filey, we stumbled upon the Dawnay Arms. We were pleasantly surprised by the spacious and welcoming pub that also allowed dogs. The Sunday roast, especially the beef, was cooked perfectly and the sides were fantastic. The only downside was that we were too full for dessert.

We’ve eaten here twice over the last month and both times the food has been great. We’ve had a Sunday lunch and an evening meal. The portions are very generous and everything is well cooked. My only slight complaint is that it’s not the warmest pub. Only one of the fires were lit when we were in and the table nearest the lit fire was unfortunately already taken. We will definitely be back though.

"The problem began with our arrival. We are 3 adults in our mid-60s and we had already climbed one set of steps to access the bar in the pub. We were escorted to our room up two more flights of narrow stairs. On entering our room, we could smell the damp in the room and discovered mould on walls behind furniture and in the corners of the window frames. We checked the prices of the evening meals on offer and there wasn't enough variety for our party and they were quite expensive. So we decided to eat out. I asked what time the pub closed and was told, when the last customer leaves. I thought that was a bit vague so I said that we would be back at 10-ish. We arrived back just after 10pm to find all entrances to the pub were fully locked up and we were unable to get in. I called the pub and, after a while, my call went to voicemail with a message that there was no one to answer my call. I left a voicemail, this was followed by another message to say that there was no one to respond to my voicemail! My party had got back into the car as it was raining and I drove to the front of the pub and sounded my horn for some time then drove to the back of the pub. At this point, a man appeared saying he had a message to come and let us in so, finally, we got in to the pub to access our room. We had an uncomfortable night but managed to get up for the early breakfast (great breakfast! and check-out. We raised all the damp and mould issues with the man who had let us in and, as one of us was asthmatic, told him that we would be leaving a poor review of the room and that they shouldn't book that room out to any one else until the issues were resolved."
