"My wife and I have visited the Dales numerous times and would never stay anywhere else. Ideally located in the little hamlet of Finghall, just outside Leyburn, and with lovely separate accommodation at the back of the pub, it is an ideal holiday venue. The meals are superb, the owners so obliging, and the views magnificent. A first-class venue. highly recommended. Rooms: Perfect. Nearby activities: Many places to explore, both historic and modern. Safety: Not an issue Walkability: Unless you are a dedicated hiker, a car is a necessity to view other parts of the Dales as it is a little isolated, but, that is all part of its charm. Food drinks: It has a lovely bar with superb food in the dining area and the staff are so obliging. Noteworthy details: Friendly staff, lovely owners, a wonderful short- or long-stay place to stay"

What a super pub. We went for lunch with a friend and we’re very impressed with the menu choices. I had the veal chop, chips and mushroom sauce and my wife had leg of lamb. Our friend had the fish and we were all super impressed. I would not have enjoyed the fish but my chop was gorgeous. My wife’s lamb just dropped off the bone so very good choice of venue and we look forwards to returning. Service: 5

It was a brilliant place to visit. There is a wonderful view from the outside space and the restaurant area. The servers are friendly and attentive. There is a good menu that will please most patrons. The meals we had were excellent. The pub and restaurant are both wheelchair accessible. There is a carpark outside with an overflow at the side that has a steep incline. It's very rare for me to award 5 stars, so that demonstrates how impressed I was.

Absolutely fantastic. Service first rate. Food exceptional. This pub is struggling to get customers but is an absolute gem. I have saved a review until we revisited and can say without a doubt it is one of of our all time favourites. Lamb rump with dauphinois potatoes and roasted veg; the food was absolutely first rate, simply stunning. Pub doesn’t have long hours only opens for meal times but is thoroughly recommended. We will be back. The prices were a few pounds more per course than a usual pub meal but on a completely next level. Gorgeous. See you all in a few weeks when we get back.

"We visited a few months ago as a family of 5 for Sunday lunch and received a less than satisfactory service due to exceptionally slow service and the poor quality of the meat in particular. However at that point we put down to teething problems due it new owners so decided to give them the benefit do the doubt and it another go. This time we visited as a larger family group so had pre-ordered from the festive menu. When we arrived there was no one behind the bar to serve drinks so made the way to our table. The pre-ordered starters arrived relatively quickly and were tasty however there was then an hours wait before the mains arrived. The turkey main was very nice however the veg advertised as seasonal, was not (baby corn /mange tout) and the beef bourguigon was full of fat and gristle. Once we had finished our mains the desserts, frustratingly again, took another hour to arrive. If they were home made warm desserts or presented/displayed with some sort of care and attention, I'd understand. However the profiteroles, advertised as being filled with chantilly cream and served with a hot chocolate sauce, were the very cheap shop bought variety with squeezy cold chocolate sauce normally used for children's ice cream. The were thrown in a small bowl with zero effort made in the presentation. The cheesecake was slightly better but again served in a bowl with little care to the presentation. The bill we had to go and seek out at the bar after 20 or so minutes of waiting. It then took another 15 mins to sort out with the poor waitress having to individually input each item. The waitress staff were very friendly and attentive when they can be found but there are serious issues with the exceptionally slow service (it wasn't very busy) and the quality of the food. We won't be trying for a third time which is disappointing as we were frequent visitors for many years before the current owners took over. Be prepared for a very long wait if you do give it a go!"
