"Whilst this may sound weird to some, I believe that some establishments can get away with having marginally disappointing beer, food, or service is the aesthetic is right and have that certain je ne sais quoi. We found The Sloop by doing a google search for dog friendly pubs within the vicinity when visiting Pembrokeshire a few weeks ago. As we drove down into the hamlet it became very obvious that this was a popular choice as whilst there was quite a lot of parking it was going to be a challenge to find a free space. I don't know whether we had the option to sit inside as we tend to not when we have the pups with us and anyway what's a little drizzle on holiday? (let the records show that drizzle became redefined in July of 2023).. I cannot think of anything that I did not like about The Sloop, including location and setting, atmosphere at the bar, the welcome from staff, food and drinks. There were some local Ale options which of course I was compelled to try as part of my mantra to aid local business and all of which were well kept. We will definitely seek out the place more deliberately when next in the area."

Called in for evening meal, very good menu choice, something for all tastes, had fish pie and chicken and mushroom tagliatelle, both very tasty. Efficient friendly service, nice atmosphere in an an old tavern, will be back when next in the area

We pre booked but the sloop was pretty quiet on 1st October. We had 3 roast chicken dinners and one scampi and chips, with a few extras, everything was great. My highlight though was the goats cheese salad I had to start, it was excellent. Great place, great food and great staff, would recommend.

Had a late lunch here on Tuesday, it was lovely, a favourite with other family members but our first time. Friendly staff, generous portions, plenty of seating both inside and out. Tried the ploughman's with ham, the cheese was delicious. Mother in law had beer battered cod, tried a bit and it just melted in your mouth. Definitely worth driving to even if its bit out of your way. View menu

We live locally and visit out of season. Booked a table for four this evening . It was busy, typical August sunny evening. Service was friendly and welcoming. Food arrived promptly. Fish pie was excellent. Nicely presented, tasty and full of fish. 5 others had cod , scampi modules. Al very happy. Whitebait for starters was crispy and tasty. One of our party wanted a Mr Whippy … not available at moment … our sorbets were excellent. All in all a lovely evening with friendly staff. Well done!

Was hoping for a roast on a Sunday but they no longer do it. Had chicken skewers with slaw and chips for about £16 but needed to pay an extra £4 for a minuscule dish of veg . Very sweet covered in honey sugar. Although we had booked a table were told we had a two hour limit. No mention of our anniversary 35 years despite my husband mentioning on booking a verbal congrats costa nothing. Over priced and over rated. Shame we didn’t bother with pudding would rather have a yogurt in the caravan than be further disappointed and at least we freed up the table early!!

Not sure what happened on this visit, maybe the chef had the day off and the pot wash was preparing the meal. Rubbery lobster with limp salad and not very pleasant potatoes, a garlic Prawn starter delivered as a main. I could not call them king prawns, maybe Atlantic prawns. Stale bread to accompany. My daughter had Mac n Cheese served like it was from a school canteen. All for thick end of £60 (including 1 pint of Coors) To feel I was cheated was an understatement. To be fair the only redeeming qualities were the servers were pleasant, and the sun was shining. View menu

Came for dinner with friends and our children last week and had a really disappointing visit! While the food was good and most of our party enjoyed their meals, mine was ruined after finding cooked plastic film in my lasagne! Unfortunately I found this out by chewing on it and when I pulled it out you could see it was film for a microwave meal with a bit of black printed writing on it. I mentioned this to the waiter who came to clear our plates, as I didn’t want to make a scene in front of our friends, but nothing was done, no apology and no refund or acknowledgement that this is obviously unacceptable.

We came with great friends to show them the lovely Porthgain Harbour and stopped for lunch at The Sloop. First day after school term started and loads of space and no waiting in addition to glorious weather! We had starters and main courses as well as beers and wine, overall the food was fabulous! Whitebait and Goats cheese salad starter went down a treat and were generous, the mains exceeded expectations, Mussels, Yakatori chicken sticks and Salmon burgers were all fantastic, in particular the Salmon burger, in a brioche bun resting on a spicy Asian slaw, it was superb and definitely a reason for a return visit!

"And lucky old us wow! This was a great surprise, we had no idea we were coming into something so unusual and so good. The garden space is very big and on the lawn, amongst the flowers, herbs and vegetable beds sit tables and chairs, mainly made of roughly hewn wood, plus tenty sheddy structures with heaters, teepee looking things and probably other structures I didn't take in.We were there when it was dark and there were strings of lights throughout the garden and it was all stunning and rather difficult to take in!The service was occasionally scatty but always well meaning and pleasant and mostly very professional and rightly proud of what they do, the place and the food they serve. The food! We were so thrilled with the food after some not very good experiences locally and, as others have said, we wished we'd found it earlier and been able to book another night.I had the pork belly which must have been cooking for hours, apart from the rind (not exactly crackling but still crispy and wonderful) I could cut the meat with my fork love to know how to achieve it. No taste had been lost in the cooking process and the fat was there but was kind of crumbly so it was gorgeous. And it came with great slices of home pickled carrot and fennel which was just delicious with a hint of sweetness and a hint of spice. And a puree which I believe was cauliflower. And don't forget the delicious little black pudding rissole that comes with it.As you can see, I could go on and on! My partner loved his succulent lamb, which was served with the same vegetables. Oh, and we had side dishes of seasonal greens and roasted beetroot and goats cheese these were also yummy and well flavoured, side dish didn't mean unimportant.Sadly, we didn't have dessert, what can I say, bet they're ace. This is far too long, do visit if you can it's a real treat with great cooking and lovely people."
