"I reviewed this some time ago, but I had occasion to dine again recently (May 2024) so I thought I would revisit my review. The restaurant wasn't exactly empty, but it was nowhere near full or half full. That was a great shame as the food and service was excellent. The service was attentive without intruding and putting a jug of water on the table when we arrived was a nice touch. The food was excellent, much better than pub food, it was nicely presented, hot and plentiful. The menu had something for everyone, I didn't realise there was a specials board but I do now and will look out for it on my next visit. I understand the cocktails are worth a look. The staff were friendly and efficient, the duty manager (Gilly) was a great asset to the establishment, if only all restaurant staff were this knowledgeable and effective, perhaps The Stables should be giving Masterclasses on how it should be done. Please take note Wetherspoons. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place. This was my previous review. Excellent food and service. Much more than pub food.."

Lots of stairs to walk down into restaurant or drive around front to walk in, tables are a little close together, Nice little pub, good food not a big dessert menu.

Really tasty meal, highly recommend the burger. Lovely atmosphere with super friendly staff. Always feel welcome, even dogs are allowed in the bar area. Easy parking, enjoy coming here for a drink or meal.

The food was above average and the service was excellent. It was surprisingly quiet with hardly anyone there for a Saturday night, which made for a lack of atmosphere. I will give it another try soon, but won't rush back. View menu

Had lunch here today. The starter was garlic mushrooms in sauce, great taste. Ham eggs and chips as main, good thick slices of ham with fluffy chips and two well cooked eggs, partner had same starter but a main of chicken and ham pasta in white sauce, also a great dish. Recommend eating here. View menu

Sorry too say but apart from pleasent staff, very average and really overpriced, both couples returned dessert cold custard and plates don't mind waiting 30 minutes for freshly cooked mains not over cooked over batterd fish and lukewarm belly pork,it gives us no pleasure too write this review but if you claim to cook all dishes fresh you really need to up your standards and warm plates! and hot food!

Had to wait 30 minutes for food which then came out cold so we sent it back . It then came out cold again . When I say cold the potatoes and parsnips were stone cold and the gravy which was a shame as the gravy was tasty . We were so hungry by this time so we did eat some of it . The Yorkshire pudding was burnt . We asked for mint sauce but were told they had none as they did not have any lamb, but they have always had mint sauce as my husband eats it with every meat and most restaurants would have it . The food used to be amazing here which is a shame the last time we came they had run out of turkey but we decided to give it another try . Definitely won’t be going again . The bill was over...

"We had two dinners and breakfast from this restaurant because we stayed in the Home Farm Hotel. We wanted to have the dinner and breakfast during our stay, but had to cancel our plans due to VERY POOR customer service received from Richard and also...because of his wife's cooking due to overcooked and burned full cook breakfast we received from the restaurant. Day 1, Richard introduced his wife to us, but she totally ignored us and in addition, she did not even bother to acknowledged and smiled with us. She seems to be very upset or very distance from everything or stressed/fed up about something at the time. Not sure this was due to over working… Day 1, Richard requested us to come down stairs for the dinner at 18:00, but instead of taking us to the restaurant for dinner, he tried his best to hard sell the alcohols he had in the bar to us and also to all the other guests. This happened even after we told him several times that we only want the meal and no alcohol from his bar. After about two hours, I had to tell him that I’m a diabetic and heart patient therefore I do really want to eat the meal and have a rest. He gave us the menu and I asked for lamb which was on the menu and he went crazy and said to us that they do not provide English food in this restaurant. I showed him what was on the menu, but he did not even apologise to us. He said lamb run out and asked us to select something else from the menu, again we selected duck, but that was run out as well!!! By then, Richard was sarcastic and rude to us as well as to other guests… In the end, we asked what we can have for our dinner. He almost shouted at us saying he and his wife only there to run the hotel without any staff therefore, we have to eat whatever his wife can cook!!! Finally, at about 21:00, we managed to have our dinner and I asked Richard to cancel our breakfast and dinner booking for the rest of the days however, he said we have to take the breakfast for next day because it was too late to cancel it. Next morning (Day 2), we were near the restaurant since 08:00 as Richard requested but as usual, past 09:00 we received burnt and overcooked full breakfast for two of us. They had a very large menu but it seems like most of the food either his wife did not know how to cook or had run out. Richard charged full price for our meals, BUT he FORGOT to provide the good quality food and services to the customers…"
