"Having decided to visit Whitby for the first time I found The Witching Post while searching for dog friendly accommodation and as soon as I found it knew it was the one for us and was not disappointed. The Inn oozes has charm and hospitality in shed loads thanks to the owner, Pete, his staff and his regulars. Evening in the bar are the perfect place to unwind after a long day out visiting the beautiful oast and moorlands nearby. Our room was very comfortable and we were made to feel very at home and welcome. This was extended to our two dogs (a GSD and Frenchie) who were welcomed by Nellie, the resident dog, as well as all the humans they came into contact with. The food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner. I can recommend the sirloin steaks excellent and all condiments were available.......including apple sauce!!I did not get to sample the famous beef cobbler so a return visit is a must. The whole place is spotlessly clean. We are hoping to make a return visit to the North Yorks Coast in Spring next year and will be returning to the Witching Post and will book early so as to request our room . Our home from home in North Yorkshire"

Staying for 3 nights. Lovely rooms, friendly people (owners and fellow customers). Fantastic breakfast and such a characterful place. Lots of dogs too for fussing. Well placed for North York Moors, Whitby, Filey, Robin hoods bay and other places. Would definitely recommend.

fantastic meal and excellent service. we visited the hexing post twice in 3 days it was so good. the steak and ale pee was tender and tasteful, the chips were the best I ever had eaten and the sticky toffee pudding was divine. all there were so welcoming, although they were relentless before their opening and were glad to make changes and substitutions to ensure that our vegetarian two years old was happy and well fed.

Visited today with three big teenage lads. All the food was delicious, especially the chips cooked in beef dripping (veg oil an option for vegetarians). We had steak pies, burger and Brie/mushroom wellington which came with a separate tureen of fresh veg. Desserts were divine. Lemon cheesecake, sticky toffee pudding, syrup pudding and hot choc fudge cake. Comments from the lads:‘THE best syrup sponge I’ve ever had’.‘The sticky toffee pudding is nectar’.Staff are really friendly, welcoming and chatty. Well done!

We travelled from Goathland to Egton to visit here after finding it on a vegetarian search of trip advisor. It was certainly a good find, the landlord, staff and indeed regulars were welcoming and friendly. We had a two course dinner here with a beer and it was good food, well presented and in a lovely bar area. We were offered the dining room but we prefer the bar generally as it was a dog friendly place and we got to see many pooches visiting in the time we were there. I would definitely go again if I were in the area.

We had been out all day and eaten nothing since breakfast so were needing somewhere to eat, Covid makes it less easy to drop in when passing. We were accommodated very well and had some delicious food, the beef cobbler really hit the spot the meat was so tender. Plenty of space between the tables. We had a lot of banter with the landlord he was very funny and after all who cares if he's wearing shorts it was meant to be his day off! : )Thank you for making us so welcomeMoo and Handy xP.S We found the geocache up the road after we left.

Greeted by the landlord (Pete) and told to ask if we needed anything or help with anything. Shown to our clean big room with a comfy bed. We came and sat in the bar next to a roaring fire and had a drink while deciding what we were going to have for dinner. My recommendation is anything with the homemade chips! We both had beef cobbler which was excellent. Breakfast in the morning was well laid out in the other room. Tea/coffee juice and a choice of cereals all on individual trays. We both had full English breakfast as well which was delicious. Went to Whitby and parked using Petes directions for free and also ate in the fish and chip restaurant he suggested, you can't beat local knowledge....

We enjoyed a lovely Sunday Lunch at this quaint pub in the beautiful Yorkshire dales. We were seated quickly at our table. There was a chilly wind but the heat lamps made all the difference so we were able to enjoy our wonderfully cooked Sunday Lunch while it was piping hot. We were a table of four and although the meal provided was ample we were asked if we would like more (I believe it would normally be a carvery where you help yourself but at present only outdoor drinks and food is available COVID 19 rules) A large plate of Beef and delicious roast potatoes, along with extra veg quickly appeared. The owner host was a hoot entertaining us at intervals in the meal with stories and jokes.A f...
