"What a delicious roast dinner! It has been a while since I've eaten here. Today, i was with a group of 4 celebrating for a birthday, we ate from the Sunday menu which was a minimum of 2 courses for £32 or £28 if you opt for the classic menu over a roast. The restaurant was packed, and I thought we would be waiting a while for our food, yet they were well staffed, and the service and time waiting for food was spot on. The food wow, the meat was the best lamb I have ever tasted, really good sized portions and came with extra gravy, good helping of veg and some pork crackling, couldn't fault it! For pudding, I had the salted caramel and sticky toffee sundae. Again, it was delicious. Although due to the price, this is not somewhere I could afford to eat regularly, the price complimented the food and service really well and is great for a special occasion. 5 stars for sure. "I booked a table for 4 for Thurs 1pm lunch, (not expecting it was really necessary as most pubs are not overbooked on a weekday but wanted to make sure we got a table) Good job I did, as the place was virtually full and I saw a group of 4 who just popped in on the off chance politely turned away. Our group of 4 all went for the 3 course set menu at £21.50 and everyone was delighted with their starters, mains and desserts. Everything was really good. Our starters were 2 prawn cocktails a mushroom and feta something and a prosciutto dish. All were beautifully presented and generous portions. 100% polished off Mains were 2 cod in crumb with crushed potatoes and veg. A chicken curry with rice and poppadom and a beef stroganoff. Everyone agreed each dish was excellent. Really tasty and cooked perfectly. 4 clean plates again. For dessert we had 1 sticky toffee pudding with Ice cream, a creme bruele a chocolate brownie with ice cream and a panacotta. Again, all 4 dishes were perfect. We had a bottle of sauvignon blanc, some local ale and a cider. There was no drinks menu on the table so we ordered blindly and had no idea of the cost of our drinks but it was fine overall. The wine was perhaps a little pricey at £27 but that's really my only niggle as similar quality wine usually costs around £22 we have found. But equally, we DID have a LOVELY lunch, the place was full but we didn't wait overlong for anything, service was friendly and attentive. Would definitely return and highly recommend. I'm not sure what happened to cause the negative reviews on here as we encountered non of the issues others complained about. Food was excellent, service was too. Look forward to returning soon."

"here for a vegan birthday breakfast after reading of good things online, and generally eating was good, but small portions, and frankly, the gourmet feeling they had created with polnta, and the similar was settled by the baked beans that were clearly from a dose. also from any reason it was really cold inside and we had to move tables at least twice to be out of the draft! I want to go to one of the vegan tasting evenings, but would not go back to breakfast!"

"This once great “pub” has become more and more elitist and up itself. I remember the much heralded opening in 2016 as well as giving it a 5-star review and considering it one of the town’s gems. But now, with the place owned independently, it’s trying to position itself as a gastro pub but has entirely lost the pub vibe. Turning-up at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon we’re asked if we’ve booked. Replying that we haven’t, we are told that it’s table service only and they can only squeeze us in to a table outside. So we sit, and we wait. And wait. After 15 minutes with nobody coming out and being told by the trendy young person at the bar that it’s always been table service and it’s every day, we get up and leave. How this place can claim to be first and foremost a pub is misrepresentation. If you want a real pub, there are plenty in HH and the recently opened “Tap” on South Road gives a better choice of beers that rotate more frequently. If you want a decent restaurant, there are better options than the Lockhart, which for the most part hasn’t changed its menu since it opened."

"We visited The Talbot for the first time as looked so nice and cosy from the outside but restaurant felt more like a canteen with no atmosphere, cheap furniture and lighting too bright. Artwork I saw was also pretty pointless and didn't add anything to it! Risotto with red cabbage and goats cheese was tasteless and didn't look appetising at all. The steak in pie was very chewy and inedible! The young lady who served us was excellent though and attentive and the bar to the front was cosy but we didn't stay long as we weren't in the mood for a dj"
