"Met a friend for lunch on an October Tuesday. We were met with smiles and a nothing is too much trouble attitude. Although an hour early, having booked, we were offered a choice of tables and left with the menus in peace. About 50 minutes and an excellent pint of Boltmaker later I ordered lunch, the fish pie and the burger plus another pint of Boltmaker and, on good authority, an excellent half of Doombar. Both main courses were very good and served with the same pleasant attitude as we'd already encountered, so much so we decided to divert from our usual one course and ordered a dessert each. The Panna Cotta and the house crumble were a perfect addition. Two good coffees later it was time to leave having spent an enjoyable three and a half hours. As I said to my companion as we enjoyed our coffees The Five Bells had only one drawback, it's about an hour and a quarter from mine. Having said that, it won't stop us from looking forward to another visit before too long. Excellent real ale, wonderful atmosphere, excellent value for money food, a thoroughly enjoyable lunchtime."

The best pub restaurant in the area. We travel 40 minutes cross country roads to get here. If you’re looking for a country pub that serves exceptional food then this is the place to go. Book ahead to avoid disappointment. Well above average pub menu. They have a very good chef. Starters, main and dessert all excellent. They have a very attentive and friendly head waiter, something a lot of places don’t have, this makes a big difference. We have taken many friends here and they have all commented on how good it is.

Booked a table for a Sunday lunch with family. We were seated straight away, and although the restaurant is fairly tightly packed, both with tables and a lot of memorabelia, we were not crowded around the table and it was a comfortable spot. Service was quick and friendly, although we were told when ordering to expect a wait of around 25 minutes for food, which was fairly accurate. It wasn't a problem though, and worth waiting for freshly cooked food! The meals were excellent and went down very well, except for the roast beef, which was good but a bit tough and fatty. The choice was also very good, including a separate vegetarian and vegan menu. Desserts were also good value, very delicious...
