"Well where do I start…. My wedding meal was here at the Weston Tavern with our family and friends. And our food was absolutely delicious. We were made to feel so welcome, as were our guests. Nothing was of any trouble and every guest who ate a meal with us commented on how lovely the meal was. The lentil soup was delicious, turkey dinner perfect and sticky toffee pudding…. Wow. The service and hospitality was second to none and I can’t wait to dine here again very soon. The restaurant was very cosy and my husband and I appreciate all the personal touches which made our wedding very special. Staff even offered local transport to take guests home and to our evening reception due to weather conditions. A must visit if you live locally or are passing through. Thanks again to you all."

Great find. Good choice of food and cask beers. They usually have great deals during the week like 50% off mains or free dessert. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. Will return

Visited recently with my wife and kids. Food was incredible, Staff friendly and pleasant also interacting with the kids. Sticky toffee pudding went down a treat all round. Will be back soon

The dining experience at this restaurant is consistently fantastic, with exceptional service. The atmosphere is always delightful, and Doss, a sweet and well-behaved girl, regularly visited our table for pats and affection. View menu

Yummy . I had the large nacho with chilli . It was a small portion but was delicious, dare to think what large was like. My Dad had a sirloin steak with the chips cooked a few times with peppercorn sauce , haven't seen him clear a plate since my Mum's cooking. Yum

Unbelievable. We went for Festive Lunch as a work team. The food is absolutely exquisite, the portion size generous and the staff and ambience delightful. This really is an absolute Scottish gem and you would be an idiot to drive past without stopping in. We could not have been happier upon leaving.

We recently revisited the Western Tavern in Kilmaurs for a family gathering. Despite a mix up in the booking, there was a lack of communication that we were bringing our dog along our fault) the staff rearranged the setting to accommodate our party of nine. The service was great as was what we had on our plates. I had the salmon and it along with the vegies was scrumptious ! Yes, we will return here View menu

The veggie burger we ordered was essentially a potato croquette in a bun with salad. It was quite mushy and we had to eat it with a knife and fork. Surprisingly, it cost £16.45. The macaroni dish came with a small side of bread and cost £17.65. The portion size was small and the food smelled like it needed a good clean. We were recommended this place by friends and traveled to visit, but the experience with these expensive and underwhelming mains, including a steak pie, and a soda water costing a total of £56, has left us disappointed and we do not plan on returning.

After hearing great reviews about this restaurant, I decided to stop by for lunch. The bartender was friendly, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. The menu had a good variety of options to choose from. However, I was disappointed that the restaurant was cold despite having a beautiful fire. The cleanliness of the place left something to be desired, as the floor behind the bar was dirty and the tables and menus were a bit grungy. The food was tasty, but unfortunately, I found Brussels sprouts in my mixed sizzler, which reminded me of leftover New Year's dinners being used up. Overall, I probably won't be returning.

"On holiday in the area and found this place online for somewhere to eat. Menu looked great. Arrived and the impression we got with the mess around the building continued indoors. Lady who took us to our table was lovely but then it went downhill again quickly when we were given the menu definitely not what it was online). It was litterly falling apart and only a fraction of what was on the online menu. We ordered food and while waiting 2 women with 5 children came in. Noise from the children was heard as soon as they got to the front door. I don't believe any of the children were at fault as the women didn't try to get them to be just a little quieter they both just shouted louder to hear each other. Both my teenage daughter and I expected the waitress to ask them to maybe just turn the volume down just a little but it turned out she knew them and like the mums she just shouted louder to be heard! Food arrived hot. Steak pie was very tasty but pizza was the kind I can buy in supermarket for about 50p. Desserts of cheesecake and sticky toffe pudding both tasted odd. We didn't eat them and just left to get away from the noise. I totally understand the staff can't dictate who frequents their establishment but they could ask rowdy customers to lower the volume instead of shouting over them. Food was nothing to shout about and we left wishing we had just stopped at the local chip shop instead"

Dumfries House Estate, East Ayrshire, United Kingdom

"The Stables Bistro is located on Dumfries House estate, next to the café and a 5 minute stroll from Dumfries House Lodge. At the time of our visit it was only open on Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday lunchtime and therefore to avoid any issues we reserved in advance when we booked a room at the Lodge. The setting is unusual in that the tables are arranged within the “stalls” of the former stables although thankfully they have long since been “mucked out”! The decoration is plain. Our table for two was accommodated in one of the stalls with another couple’s table and there was plenty of room to spare. There were a few groups occupying some of the other stalls giving each party a private space and providing a good atmosphere. There was no dress code and most guests we saw were “smart but casual”. There was a choice of 4 items per course, all freshly prepared to order. I felt as if we could easily try any of the choices however for starters I opted for salmon pillows (stuffed with a trout mousse) whilst my wife had breaded stuffed wild mushroom with salad; for mains I had hake on a bed of spinach assorted vegetables, my wife had chicken with chive mash and vegetables and to finish we shared millionaire shortbread and then the Scottish cheese board. The dishes were all well presented, focussed on quality rather than quantity and were very enjoyable. With only a short stroll to our lodgings we enjoyed a couple of bottles of wine with the meal at around £18 each. Service was pleasant and efficient and our bill was £80, ex tip, but including the wine. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would go back when we next visit Dumfries House. There is a toilet for disabled guests on the ground floor and the main bathrooms (very well maintained) are upstairs where there also appears to be a small function room."
