"Booked for 3 nights over Burghley Horse Trials weekend. Waited 1 hour 15 minutes to be receive our breakfast on the first morning. The girl working wasn't coping well, despite it wasn't busy. Other people were also unhappy. Breakfast was lovely when it finally arrived. Pre ordered the following day, as didn't want that wait again. Lady serving was much more orderly and again breakfast was lovely. Tried to pre order for Sunday morning only to be told the kitchen didn't open until 9am on a Sunday, despite the info board saying 8am. Disappointing. Had dinner on the Saturday night and service was very slow. Kettle stopped working, was given one with quite a bit of grit inside. Tea/coffee/milk was replenished and the person I asked was very nice, but didn't know where they were kept. Such a shame, we have stayed here many times pre 2019 for Burghley as great location, and previous people were fantastic. Unfortunately wouldn't come back to stay or eat. Have emailed prior to leaving this review and a member of staff responded saying they would pass the information on to the owner, but no response from the owner."

Haven't been here in years. The food was delicious, had the chicken and ham pie and rump steak, apparently the best steak eaten in years. The staff were friendly and helpful. We will definitely return. Service: 5 Location: 5

My wife and I have just spent a very pleasant weekend at the Royal Oak. And I have to say the hotel was very nice. Room number 5 was clean and warm the bed was comfy. The breakfast choices was adequate we had a full English one day and pancakes on the next . We had one evening meal which was Excellent. The staff were friendly and efficient. We will definitely come again in the future.

We came across The Royal Oak by chance and are very glad we did. The room was lovely, the staff were extremely helpful and welcoming, they loved our two (occasionally troublesome! collies and the food was absolutely lovely. What a great find this was and one that we'll definitely be returning to. So if you've got a long journey ahead of you, it's not very far from the A1 and I'd definitely recommend you stop over! Fab!! Quaint little gastropub on the edge of a beautiful little village. Food was outstanding. The Pan friend Halibut with lobster bisque and caviar was completely worth the price!! The spinach gnocchi was also delicious. I loved how light but filling the dish felt. We were served by a lovely young lady and felt we were extremely welcomed particularly seeing as we were not regulars and it was simply a recommendation from a local!! Will definitely hope to come back if we’re in the area again.

Such a lovely hotel. We had a double deluxe room which was very clean, stylish, enough space for us to move around easily and great facilities. The breakfast was fantastic, there was a choice of pastries (not fresh, but still tasty), yogurt, fruit, a selection of jams and cereals and toast, you can also have a cooked breakfast which included the full English, pancakes with bacon and maple syrup, poached eggs with salmon. We both had the full English and wasn't disappointed, all of it was cooked to perfection, even the fried egg which I asked to be runny, the sausage was very tasty and the hash brown wasn't greasy, we tried many full English breakfasts when we go away and by for it's one of t...
