"The importance of good service cannot be overstated when dining out. During our visit to this restaurant, we experienced a few shortcomings in this area. After ordering our food, we were informed that we would need to request additional plates from the waitress, as the servers rotated. Our meals were placed on the table without any inquiry about sauce or condiments, and we were not asked if we wanted more drinks. The server appeared disinterested and did not engage with us, despite the loud ambiance requiring elevated voices to communicate. Attention to detail and making guests feel valued are key aspects of hospitality. The cheese board lacked butter and plates, necessitating a request for these items. Upon finishing our meal, we were promptly asked to vacate the table, even though there were numerous vacant tables and no waiting customers. While the food was tasty, the portion sizes left something to be desired - receiving only half a carrot, half a parsnip, and three potatoes felt insufficient. The side vegetables consisted of kale and courgette, with no cauliflower or broccoli in sight."

Food was lovely for our evening meal and for breakfast. The atmosphere was great. The service we had was great apart from one waitress that could maybe do with a little more customer service training. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £40–50 View menu

The food at this restaurant is absolutely delicious and they are very attentive to food allergies. As someone with celiac disease, eating out can often be difficult, but I had a great experience here. They are conscious of cross contamination and made me feel comfortable and welcome. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the gluten free community. The staff are all wonderful as well.

Went for a family birthday meal wanting to avoid town on a busy bank holiday. Plenty of parking, friendly staff, food was lovely and everything was cooked perfectly. Relaxed atmosphere and unpretentious delicious food. Wheelchair accessibility: Nan isn't the most mobile but it was fine. Parking near the door, all on one level, double door access if needed and plenty of space on the access loo. Service: Dine in

We had dinner at this restaurant and the price per person was between £30-£40. The food was excellent, I would rate it a 5 out of 5. The service was also top-notch, I would give it a 5 out of 5. The atmosphere of the restaurant was great, I would rate it a 5 out of 5 as well. I would recommend trying the scallops at this restaurant, they were delicious. There was plenty of parking space available at the restaurant and the parking options were free in the parking lot. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience. View menu

In the interest of improvement and not just slating some place, I wonder if there’s management issues here that could be sorted with a bit of effort/strategy? I concur with many other recent posts that service was below average. Not bringing menus, asking for cutlery that didn’t arrive and some other small basics that weren’t right symptoms of a new team or one without direction. Even with casual/low paid staff the right management can have them on the ball. Food was ok, gravy delicious on roast and portions plentiful but desserts disappointing for price. Beautiful cosy venue with that fire upon entrance with the nights closing in and days a little colder. Hope they get sorted.

I will start by saying the hotel is fantastic. Also breakfasts in Tykes were superb. Also my wifes two meals beef cheeks and monkfish were very nice. The problem for me was I love steaks, the restaurant offered Sirloin steaks my favourite which I have had many at various restaurants. The first night the steak was extremely fatty, not just on the sides but throughout the steak. I complained and the manager advised the chef cut the steak from an outside joint, he had seen the fat waste on my plate. The second night was my birthday and I wanted to try again. The waitress who was the only member of staff I had issue with advised me to expect the same again in a not to friendly way. It was a choic...

"The problem began with our arrival. We are 3 adults in our mid-60s and we had already climbed one set of steps to access the bar in the pub. We were escorted to our room up two more flights of narrow stairs. On entering our room, we could smell the damp in the room and discovered mould on walls behind furniture and in the corners of the window frames. We checked the prices of the evening meals on offer and there wasn't enough variety for our party and they were quite expensive. So we decided to eat out. I asked what time the pub closed and was told, when the last customer leaves. I thought that was a bit vague so I said that we would be back at 10-ish. We arrived back just after 10pm to find all entrances to the pub were fully locked up and we were unable to get in. I called the pub and, after a while, my call went to voicemail with a message that there was no one to answer my call. I left a voicemail, this was followed by another message to say that there was no one to respond to my voicemail! My party had got back into the car as it was raining and I drove to the front of the pub and sounded my horn for some time then drove to the back of the pub. At this point, a man appeared saying he had a message to come and let us in so, finally, we got in to the pub to access our room. We had an uncomfortable night but managed to get up for the early breakfast (great breakfast! and check-out. We raised all the damp and mould issues with the man who had let us in and, as one of us was asthmatic, told him that we would be leaving a poor review of the room and that they shouldn't book that room out to any one else until the issues were resolved."
