"I booked a table at the Merry Monk on line for Sunday Lunch, I meant to book at the Merry Monk in Taunton Somerset, on discovering my mistake I quickly rang to explain why we were unable to come and frankly expected a sympathetic hearing , I was bluntly told as I had booked on line and given my debit card details I would be charged Β£100 for a no show ! I asked if this could be waived due to our circumstances and the person I was speaking to, hung up on me. My husband rang later and spoke to another person who assured me the owner would ring back when he was free, he didn't! The proprietor of the Merry Monk Taunton said this was not the first time that had happened. Lesson learned if the booking requires payment card details, go elsewhere! Top marks to the Merry Monk in Taunton who found us a table and served us with old world courtesy on a very busy Sunday"

Very nice gastro pub, had the chicken liver for starters as usual, always have to ask for more toast but that's ok, you just seem to want more and more :) View menu

After a break of several years because of Covid, today we went back, this time for brunch. Service and food were as good as ever. They deserve to do really well.

This place is great for a special evening. We went for our wedding anniversary. The food and service were outstanding, it's the second time we've been here and it definitely won't be the last. I'm looking forward to when I can go again. Just wish I could've eaten more! View menu

Great brunch menu. Such a lot of choice from a full fry-up to plenty of sweet treats for the kids (waffles, pancakes and cakes). Really tasty veggie option too. We thought it was very reasonably priced too for the amount and quality of food. Would definitely recommend a visit.

The Merry Monk serves the most exquisite food you will find for miles around. It is operated by a superb chef and he knows how to select, prepare and serve food. Our Sunday lunch was quite the finest I have ever eaten. The beef was just sublime tender, tasty, perfectly medium rare as requested and melt in your mouth. All the accompaniments were similarly top notch and the meal was simply extraordinarily splendid. The staff are informed, attentive and polite. The whole experience could not be faulted and I cannot recommend The Merry Monk any more highly. If you eat out and haven't yet visited you must!

"added dropwise for a pizza on the afternoon without reservation, and we were warmly welcomed and set immediately. the smell of reifer tomatensauce and gooey mozzarella in the stone oven under fire baked was an salutation to the sinnen. the restaurant was filled with a pleasant humor of talking and laughing, the sound of the teigs chopped in the kitchen, and the familiar sound of tellers and cutlery picked up and put down again - all with weak Italian music plays in the background. the ambiente was a tasteful hauch of seafoam blue on the wooden wall panels and equipped with sturdy furniture with red chili oils, salt and peppers and various types of fresh crimp on each table. a table can have salvia, another basilikum, the next coriander. a charming, subtler node to the l 'arte d 'arrangiarsi the art of making something from nothing of pizza. the menu was easy and easy to navigate, nothing to slandered level and nothing too adventurous. we ordered a pesto pizza and we asked for extra tomato sauce to which our server would be happy insured. after many times we came to our table customers and sleeps! the pesto had a tasteful taste and was pleasant tangy, the tomato sauce was juicy and not quite watery, and the mozzarella was evenly distributed and reached every end of the teigs. the best part, however, was the thick, soft resistance of the crust - not even the least incineration, but just at the right time pulled out of that. a 1 x 1 ' ft perfectly presented pizza. the, with two fizzy drinks, for less than 20 Β£. will return for the same, but with the intention to add a little red wine."
