"After two great dinners at this establishment, I feel confident about giving it the shining review it deserves. Friendly, professional and efficient staff; comfortable and spacious dining area there was really nothing not to like, including all our food selections: chicken liver parfait, fish and chips, Thai beef salad, cauliflower and avocado salad, chicken and beef burgers, creme brûlée and assorted ice creams.Give the current uncertainty of the Covid situation, I appreciated the decision of the management to protect their own staff and the customers (the assistant manager’s words, not mine) by continuing to wear face coverings, even though we were the only customers who seemed to show mutual respect by wearing them when moving around the restaurant. The rest of Cheltenham seems to have relegated masks to the dustbin.Anyhow, The Royal is a truly wonderful pub, so do try it!"

The food was fantastic, but the wine appeared to be overpriced compared to the cost of the food.

Hooray for the new owners! At last a varied, affordable menu. There's a great choice of wine and a pint of larger is what it should be £5. The pizza's are excellent and if the sun's out you can enjoy them in the lovely garden. The burgers are great too. We will be back!

Our second visit in 2 weeks. First for my birthday, second for work as staying nearby. Charlie the whole team are great. Fabulous service, great food and a lovely outdoor space. Define our go to place in Cheltenham. Our recommendations are the chicken wings starter and the crispy pork belly and mushroom linguine mains. Delicious!

This is a very nice pub with a good atmosphere and friendly service and we were well looked after by Alice. We had the Surf and Turf and the Chicken burger and both were very good.We had a crumble and the different ice-creams for dessert and a couple of coffees, both good. There are well kept real ales and a good gin selection along with a nice Malbec !With all our drinks and food the bill came to a very reasonable

We went for an early dinner. The bar drinks were well received we had good service. My partner ordered the Paprika Chicken said it was tasty but there were far too many chickpeas in the dish. I ordered the Duck stir fry it was tasteless bland. The only flavour was the chillis spring onions. The dishes were well presented, however, for the price we paid we were very disappointed with our meal didn't feel the cost reflected the quality. Thank you to the Royal for over 20 years but it is now GOODBYE.

Blown away by the fabulous food and amazing service. This is a superb independent pub and restaurant situated opposite a beautiful church. My wife suffers from coeliac disease and we found this little gem as they have a gluten free (GF) menu. The first night we had rump steak, which was honestly the best most tender rump steak I have ever had. It was so good we went back the following night. But on the second night we were tempted by the Sunday roast my wife had roast beef and I had roast lamb. The roasts came with GF gravy, GF cauliflower cheese, GF roast potatoes and a selection of GF veggies. I had a Yorkshire pudding too (Not GF but delicious) I should add the guys and girls that work he...

We were in the area and decided we needed a break from the rain, so we popped in here. Its lovely inside and the bar staff was super freindly. We didn't eat, but the restaurant was pretty full at lunchtime and the food going by on the way to customers looked delicious. We sat in the bar on two comfy chairs and promised ourselves a lunch or dinner when we're next in the area. Update; A recent visit shows how things can change. The food this time was below average and the service cold and unfriendly. The pub was very busy with mums and babies, so was incredibly noisy with lots of children screaming. We may have been there at the wrong time 4:45 as it was school run time. Also the price of the...

"The story: Two weeks prior, peeking through the restaurant window, I was intrigued to see the kitchen artizans hard at work creating sushi platters that looked vibrant but also elegant. On the 14th November at lunchtime, I was looking forward to trying Kibou as Japanese cuisine is one of my favourites. It's very hard to see the same level of unique variety that Kibou has compared to the few Japanese restaurants I am local to. We wanted to try an array of items and the mini seasonal menu had just been released in time for our visit as well. The food: The Jo Moriawase and New Style Sashimi were great introductions to the first impressions of the quality and range of the dishes available as they were the assortment dishes. Our server provided us with guidance on what we should try first on the Jo Moriawase in order to prevent ending up with eating soggy nori which we appreciated. The Black Cod Nigiri is nothing I have ever tried before so this was also an interesting experience for our tastebuds. My dad has a tough palate to appease but to my surprise, he was satisfied with the Spider Roll Temaki and Chashu Ramen (he thought the pork broth could have been less strong but nonetheless still enjoyed, not like the artificial flavourings you get in an instant ramen if you know what I mean). The Chirashizushi was great for me as I love my sashimi. I didn't realise the yellow portions were actually tamago/egg roll until I tasted it. Some sort of gastronomical wizardry? My mum really lavished the Yaki Udon textures, with the udon noodles having the right amount of nudge needed to chew and biting into the nice crispy outer layer of the tofu. My only regret is not having enough room to try the desserts. Overall, a unique adventure for the tastebuds! The price: If you are extremely budget conscious, perhaps I would not be able to recommend Kibou to you. For a family of three, we were about £40-50 per person. As of my visit, the service charge is 10%. Don't get me wrong though, I think the service charge is fair and reasonable because our experience with the staff we talked to and came by our table were lovely. The atmosphere: Family-friendly but also evening bar feel. Sakura Cherry Blossom and other Japanese-related art themes run throughout the restaurant. The service: We didn't have to wait very long to be seated or served. The waiting staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. The kitchen staff did an amazing job with the food. Would I come again?: Yes, as a treat! Plus I want to try the dessert next time! :"
